Martha's Vineyard is an island with a rich history of relaxation and outdoor activities ranging from beautiful public beaches, bicycle paths and art galleries to chartered fishing trips, kayak adventures and farm visits. Attractions such as the Aquinnah Clay Cliffs, Chappaquiddick island, Menemsha fishing village and Oak Bluffs gingerbread houses are easily accessible.

Guests under the age of 18 require a legal guardian or parent.
Hostelling International is a non-profit association. Non-members pay an additional 3 USD per overnight over the membership rate.

At or near hostel

Location

The Hostel is located at 525 Edgartown-West Tisbury Road. If you are using mapquest or google maps use 02568 as our postal code, otherwise our location shows up in a different part of the island. From Vineyard Haven, take State Rd to Old Country Rd and make a left onto Edgartown-West Tisbury. The hostel will be 3 driveways past the fire department on your left. Same directions by bike, except hop on the bike path on Old Country Road and keep an eye out for signs to Hostel.

Bus

From Boston, New York or Providence, take Bonanza Bus to Woods Hole. then hop on the ferry to the Island. From Vineyard Haven take the # 2 or 3 bus to the # 6 bus and ask to be let out at the hostel.

Airport

Boston- 80 miles. Go over the Bourne Bridge onto Cape Cod; Take 28 south to Woods Hole and take the Ferry to the Vineyard Haven. Martha's Vineyard Airport - 3 miles to the Hostel

Hostelling International is a non-profit membership organization promoting international understanding and peace though hostelling since 1909. To maintain our ability to offer low-budget accommodations we charge additional fees to non-members.

However, a FREE Group Membership is available to US groups. A group membership entitles everyone in the group to member rates. You must be the group leader of an organized, US based group of 10 or more people in order to apply for a free group membership.

Hostel Staff at HI - West Tisbury - Martha's Vineyard

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, checking people in and out; using a cash register and handling cash and credit card transactions; setting up breakfast (no cooking); answering phones and replying to emails; processing reservations via phone, email, online reservation system, and in person; answering loads of questions about what to do, where and when; entering data in the computer using excel; sometimes helping with housekeeping and laundry; minor maintenance, like unplugging a toilet; welcoming groups; acting as social director....all while having fun!
Daily housekeeping tasks may include, but are not limited to: laundering lots of sheets and towels, making beds, washing dishes, cleaning the kitchen including the refrigerators, sweeping and/or vacuuming, mopping all bathroom and kitchen floors, emptying garbage in rooms, bathrooms and kitchen, dusting, washing windows, cleaning the bathrooms including sinks, showers and toilets everyday, and keeping all common areas looking neat.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications Must Have: ? High School degree and/or equivalent work experience in a hostel, is required. College coursework in business management or hospitality management preferred. ? Must be flexible regarding work schedule: must work evenings, early mornings, holidays and weekends. ? Hostel, retail and/or front desk experience which required cash handling and processing of credit card transactions. ? Computer skills (Windows OS, Microsoft Office and QuickBooks) ? Must be fully ambulatory as the position involves climbing stairs and/or walking on unpaved, rough ground. ? Must be able to lift weights up to 25 pounds ? Ability to work effectively without immediate supervision Desired: ? Property management system experience particularly if with ASSD. ? Hospitality, guest services and/or public relations experience. ? Additional experience in one or more of the following areas: cleaning, building, maintenance, bookkeeping, reservations, and/or supplies purchasing. ? Live-in work experience preferred. ? Knowledge of a second language.

Reports to: Hostel manager

Salary, Benefits, and Hours

Compensation based on experience, reduced cost housing is provided, flexible hours: full time (40 hours per week) and part time positions available.
Starts May 17, 2010 and ends October 15, 2010
