Congratulations to Cristen Rene, Southwest Texas Council Travel Scholarship Winner

Cristen Rene will be traveling to India in late summer 2010. Her plan is to study the plastic bag problem India and to find groups of people interested in learning how to crochet with plastic bags. She states that she would like to "visualize turning the plastic bag crochet idea into a larger project – one that involves selling Indian made recycled plastic bag items (both in India and online) and sending the money back to these communities."

Point Reyes Hostel to Get Bigger, Greener

HI-Point Reyes Hostel

Hostelling International’s Northern California network will get even greener this year — in June, the National Park Service will break ground on a LEED-registered building at the Point Reyes Hostel. The expansion will add four private family rooms to the hostel, which is the only non-camping accommodation within Point Reyes National Seashore.

Space Still Available for the Moonlight Ramble Bike Ride

Sign up today to join in the 47th Annual Moonlight Ramble. Proceeds will supporty HI-Gateway Council’s efforts to develop the historic Mullanphy Emigrant Home into a world-class hostel. On August 21-22, more than 10,000 recreational cyclists of all ages and skill levels from all over the world will join us in supporting hostel development.
