Sacramento Hostel’s new private rooms evoke California’s golden past

Eureka! The Sacramento Hostel now has new private rooms inspired by California’s Gold Rush history.

Hang your hat in The Argonaut, one of the mansion’s large original bedrooms, with two full-size beds and an east-facing bay window that overlooks the courtyard and the fountain. "Argonaut" was a term used to describe the pioneers who traveled to California on a quest for gold. The name references a band of heroes in Greek mythology who went on a quest for the Golden Fleece. A decorative and ornate room — which highlights the heritage of the building and its historic roots as a Gold Rush-era home — The Argonaut features an Eastlake-style fireplace mantel with ornamental flora-and-fauna tilework.

Shake off those flecks of gold dust and get cozy in The Prospector, a quaint private room with a full-size bed. "Prospector" was another term for gold miner — or rather, people who were hoping to strike it rich quick! There’s a south-facing window in this room that looks out at a 40-foot high hack-berry tree — a view that adds a natural touch to an urban, capital city setting. The room also features high ceilings and exposed structural beams, giving it a loft-like feel.

These two new rooms join a family of private rooms at the Sacramento Hostel, all of which have been re-christened with Gold Rush names. There are The Bonanza and The Mother Lode (both names are prospector jargon for a vein of gold ore), which each have a "Houston" bed — a full-size bed with a single bunk above. The 49er is an inviting space with an orange color scheme inspired by the Art Deco print hanging above the queen bed.

Hit the jackpot with The Lucky Strike and enjoy a large room with a queen-size bed and a twin-size bed, or go for the gold in The El Dorado. Spanish for "the golden one" this name refers to the mythical lost city of gold, and the room boasts a full-size bed, a sitting area, and an en suite bathroom. Traveling solo? Count your pennies in The Nugget, a snug single-person room with a twin bed.

Always a great value, the hostel’s eight, historically themed private rooms in the heart of downtown Sacramento are perfect for a golden getaway! Check out the rates and photos and book your stay today.
