HI Washington DC celebrates the UN International Day of Peace with a Peace Conference

01 September 2015

The United Nations International Day of Peace falls on September 21, and organizations and individuals around the world celebrate this day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace. For the third consecutive year, Hostelling International USA’s (HI USA) collection of hostels nationwide is hosting Sleep For Peace to honor of this special day, including HI Washington, DC (HI DC). Additionally, HI hostels on every continent (except the Antarctica) are hosting their own unique festivities – making it truly a global event.

In honor of this event, HI DC is organizing a Peace Conference on Saturday, September 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m with the theme Connected, yet Disconnected. HI DC’s 5th Annual Peace Conference aims to raise awareness about women’s empowerment and social norms, the key role of youth leadership in social change, and police brutality in the United States. To that end, our conference features experts in human rights activism, social impact, advocacy, conflict resolution, and civil rights activism.

The conference will include a raffle and complimentary breakfast and lunch. Raffle prizes are Newseum tickets and gift cards. It is open to the public and tickets are $7 per person. For more information on speakers and to register for the event, please visit our Eventbrite page.
