Staying at HI Washington DC is a cultural experience unto itself. You’ll feel it during outings to national monuments, live performances, and historical neighborhoods. You’ll taste it with ethnic meals cooked at the hostel by volunteers. And you’ll be right in the middle of it with every hello and handshake you make with your fellow travelers from every corner of the world.
HI DC makes it easy to absorb the rich culture that defines the nation’s capital. Even better, many of the most impactful experiences – including the hostel-led tours and activities – are totally free. For ideas to get you off the beaten path and into the real DC, check out the HI USA Free For All in DC.
The hostel also hosts special events throughout the year, centered around culture and diversity. If you’re around in May, HI DC is participating in Passport DC, a month-long celebration of DC’s thriving international diplomatic community and its lively and varied culture. You’ll find events around town all month long, and join the hostel on March 13, from 3-6:00pm, for Multicultural Open House: One Global Village, featuring:
- Henna tattoos
- Tea leaf readings
- Yoga session
- Health, wellness, and travel booths
- Dominican music and dance workshop
- International food and drinks
