There is a lot on the forefront here at HI Phoenix! In our busiest season yet, we’ve proudly taken our hostel to new levels. Winter is an excellent time to visit the city; with a bustling downtown scene and access to incredible hikes and scenic drives, the desert is well-worth the experience.
In addition to calling ourselves a hostel, we are equally committed to being a cultural center. Our events spark dialogue between both community members and hostellers alike, focusing on the intersectionality between art, culture, and politics. With past success from our ‘Banned Play’ readings, we are thrilled to announce a new partnership with Phoenix-based art collective Border/Arte in hosting intimate ‘Living Room Sessions’ that bring internationally renowned artists to the hostel for cultural engagement. Recent guest artists have included Ana Teresa Fernandez, Margarita Cabrera, and musical group Los Cambalache.
In addition to our new partnership with Border/Arte, we are pleased to work with Arizona State University’s ‘Local to Global Justice Forum,’ a weekend-long event that provides resources to the community about issues surrounding local and global justice, all the while promoting diversity, freedom of speech, and academic freedom of discussion. This February, they will host their kick-off at HI Phoenix, where they will introduce the annual forum’s guest speakers, local contributors, and instigate activities that bond our international guests with the current happenings of our state. We’ve had incredible turnout from the community and high level of participation from previous years, and are looking forward to providing our guests with unique and meaningful experiences.
