Types of Membership

HI USA is a non-profit organization founded on the belief that travel has the power to change lives. Your HI USA membership allows us to make these transformative experiences and programs accessible to more people – including you! 

To stay at a HI USA hostel, each guest must be a member, and there are several types of membership available. You can purchase a daily, annual, or lifetime membership as an individual, or there are options for groups as well. 

Daily $3 memberships can be purchased at HI USA hostels at check-in. Youth, adult, and life memberships can be purchased online, over the phone, or via mail. The prices listed below for youth and adult membership costs are for digital membership only. If you like to travel with a physical membership card, don’t worry! It can be purchased for an additional fee.

Group Membership*

Are you part of a U.S.-based group traveling with 8 or more people? Sign up for our free group membership. Note that we are only able to offer Group memberships to U.S. residents.* 

We can also help groups arrange stays in our hostels or organize itineraries and programmed activities. Contact us for group sales support. 

*Youth, Life, and Group memberships are only available for U.S. residents. If you are not a U.S. resident and are interested in these types of memberships, visit www.hihostels.com to find the closest Hostelling International office in your home country.

If you’ve lost your membership card and would like it to be emailed to you, be sure to include your name and address so we can verify your membership. We will email proof of membership within 2-3 business days.
