United for Sustainable Action

Join HI USA, InterExchange, and the German Youth Hostel Association this summer 2019 on a two-week tour of Germany and New York City that will allow you to explore the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

This travel program features awesome German and American destinations, hands-on experiences, and a deep dive into sustainable development and cultural exchange. Join a cross-cultural group including both German and American participants as you explore off-the-beaten-path destinations, followed by immersive visits to two of the most exciting and creative cities in the world: Berlin and New York City.

With more than 100 years of experience engaging students and young professionals in life-changing cultural exchange programs, HI USA, the German Youth Hostel Association, and InterExchange are your ideal guides for personal growth and adventure.

In this program, we'll tackle questions like:

  • What do the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) look like in practice?
  • What does it mean to move the world in a sustainable direction?
  • What academic and career possibilities exist in this area?

  • Program dates: July 27 – August 9, 2019
  • 3 destinations in Germany (Ploen, Hamburg, and Berlin) & New York City, USA
  • Non-governmental organization (NGO) visits, volunteer opportunities, and immersive cultural experiences
  • Scholarship opportunities are available

Program Participant Requirements


  • 18 years or older
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident, or German citizen
  • High school graduate
  • Holder of a valid travel passport
