Welcome to HI San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf Hostel! We believe the best way to experience the Bay Area is to dive into its history, nature, and culture — so we created the HI San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf Patch Challenge just for our group guests.
The Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) isn’t just a park; it’s our backyard. When your group stays at HI San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf hostel, historic forts, beautiful coastlines, and the Golden Gate Bridge are all right outside your door.
The HI San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf Patch Challenge blends digital learning with real-world exploration to help your group truly connect with this incredible landscape. This two-part program is completely self-guided, and everything you need is right here. Just follow the steps below, have fun, and claim your reward at the hostel front desk when you’re done!
Time required: About 30–40 minutes.
Who participates: The whole group, either together in one room or virtually.
Why do it early? By the time you check in, your group will already know the stories behind the scenery — making your on-site experience richer and more meaningful. Plus, it’s a fun way to get everyone excited during the planning phase!

Please note: your group will need to complete the Trivia in advance of your trip in order to qualify for the Patch Challenge.
On-site activity options range from quick strolls to historical sites right behind the hostel, to longer visits at iconic sites like Alcatraz and Muir Woods.
