Yes. Please send all packages via UPS or FedEx, not USPS.
Bunk beds are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact us in advance by emailing [email protected] if you have a strong preference for a top/lower bunk and we will do our best to accommodate you; however, please note that requests cannot be guaranteed.

The maximum length of stay is 14 nights per calendar year, not to exceed 14 nights within two consecutive months (December & January).
HI Pigeon Point Lighthouse Hostel is located on Pigeon Point Road, off coastal Highway 1, 20 miles south of Half Moon Bay and 27 miles north of Santa Cruz. It’s about 40 miles south of SFO airport and about 50 miles southwest of SJC (San Jose) airport.
You can’t miss the turnoff for the 115-foot-tall lighthouse, which is about 5 miles south of the Pescadero turnoff and is clearly visible from Highway. Note, the hostel is not accessible via public transportation.
From SFO Airport:
Take Hwy 380 West to Hwy 280 South to Hwy 92 West to Half Moon Bay City. Go South 20 miles on Hwy 1 to Pigeon Point Road. Go West .02 miles to 210 Pigeon Point Road.
From SJC Airport:
Go South on Hwy 880 into Hwy 17 to Santa Cruz. Go North on Hwy 1 to Pigeon Point.
From the Port of San Francisco:
San Francisco Port is 55 miles north of Pigeon Point Hostel. Drive South on Hwy One 20 miles to Pigeon Point Rd. Go West .02 miles to Hostel.
Pets are not permitted at any HI USA hostels. We do permit service animals as identified by ADA guidelines. At all times, service animals must be under the owner’s control and never left alone.
Limited free parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please park in the front parking lot only.
State Park rules do not allow vehicles to load or unload directly next to the hostel buildings. Please be prepared to haul all of your luggage 100-300 feet from the parking lot to the hostel buildings themselves.
The hot tub is open from 4 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. daily and must be reserved for 30-minute slots at $10.00 per person per 30-minute slot. Guests can sign up for time slots at the front desk upon check in (sorry, but we cannot reserve slots over the phone prior to check in).
- Sign up starts at 3:30 p.m. daily.
- 4 people maximum per time slot.
- No children 6 years old or younger are allowed inside the hot tub area. Children must be supervised at all times by adults.
- No rotating people through the time slots.
- Time slots may be limited for large groups.
Operation of the hot tub is not guaranteed and is not a special condition of the overnight accommodation. Weather, hazards, and mechanical breakdowns may close the hot tub for an unspecified amount of time.
The State Park is closed to the general public at sunset. Hostel Quiet/Lights-out Hours are 11 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Please be quiet for other guests trying to sleep in the adjacent buildings. Please whisper outside after 11:00 p.m.
Pigeon Point is a star-friendly dark-sky environment, so please close your curtains after dark and do not use excessive lights outside (use of red flashlights is encouraged).
We do not have curfew or lock-out hours in place, however please be mindful of our quiet hours.
Our daily office hours are 7:30 a.m.- 10:30 p.m. Check-in starts at 3:30 p.m. (check-ins are not accepted after 10:30 p.m.)
Unfortunately, we do not have guest laundry facilities at the hostel.
Please speak to someone at the Front Desk in person. We are pleased to match any publicly advertised online rate* for additional nights booked directly through us. While we strive to keep you in the same room/bed, this is based on availability at the time of your request. The sooner you can let us know you’d like to extend, the better. Please let us know no later than check-out time (in most cases, 11 a.m.) on the day of your scheduled check out.

Our dorm room lockers are 8 inches wide x 16 inches tall x 10 inches deep (20.3 cm x 40.6 cm x 25.4 cm).
We encourage guests to bring their own locks. If you do not have one, you may purchase one at the front desk for $5.
No, the entire property operates at ground-level.
Yes, all HI USA hostels have hair dryers available. In some hostels, you will find them affixed to the wall in common bathrooms, and in others they are available upon request at the Front Desk.
No, towels and linens are included in the cost of your stay. Each guest receives a fitted sheet, a flat sheet and a pillow cover, one bath towel, and a comforter blanket upon check in. Sleeping bags are allowed but must be used on top of bed sheets. A pillow is provided.
Bicycles may be locked to the rack in the first garage bay next to the Dolphin House. They are not allowed inside the buildings. The hostel is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. We do offer $2 off for individual guests arriving by bike under their own steam. Guests must bring their own bicycle locks.
We are happy to store Powered Mobility Devices (PMDs) such as e-bikes, scooters, or e-skateboards/hoverboards during your stay. Note that we do have several rules in place for the safety of our staff and guests.
- We can only store devices with a holographic sticker confirming they comply with UL (Underwriters Laboratories) Certification or EN 15194 Certification (Conformité Européenne).
- PMDs may not be charged inside the hostel building.
- PMDs may only be in designated zones of the hostel, and never in guest rooms.
- Batteries must remain attached to PMDs at all times while on the hostel premises. Batteries are not allowed in guest rooms.

We do not offer hostel-run tours at this time. We recommend checking out one of our local tour partners to make the most of your visit to the area!
HI Pigeon Point Lighthouse Hostel is located on a cliff overlooking the ocean, and we utilize Starlink (satellite) for our WiFi. Generally, the signal is good, however please note that during times of severe weather there are times that it can be lagging and/or unavailable.
Minors traveling with a parent or legal guardian are welcome at all HI USA hostels. While we encourage guardians traveling with children to book private rooms for their comfort, we do allow minors in dorm rooms.
For safety reasons, children over 2 years old must have their own bunk bed in dorm rooms, and children under 7 may not sleep in top bunks. Emancipated minors traveling on their own, or other minors traveling alone with parental or guardian consent, should contact the hostel directly for more information on policies and booking instructions.
HI Pigeon Point Lighthouse hostel is in a great location for travelers. It provides easy access to beaches, hiking and biking trails, tidepools, and other outdoor attractions.
Only registered guests are allowed inside hostel buildings. The hostel is located inside a public state park, so you can have your friends visit outside.

Yes, free luggage storage is available both before and after check out.
We accept all forms of debit and credit cards including Apple Pay/Google Pay/tap to pay. We also accept cash (with an additional deposit). We capture payment in full at check-in (or prior to, in cases of non-refundable rates).
All guests must present a valid (non-expired) government-issued photo ID (physical originals only; we cannot accept digital versions or photocopies) upon check in.
Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Unfortunately, no. But you may request late check out for an additional fee if available.
