We accept packages during your stay at no cost. Be sure to address packages using the name that appears on your reservation.
For packages arriving before check-in date or abnormally large packages, there is a $5 per package fee. We do not accept mail after your stay ends.
Bunk beds are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact us in advance by emailing [email protected] if you have a strong preference for a top/lower bunk and we will do our best to accommodate you; however, please note that requests cannot be guaranteed.

Bus from LAX Airport:
Wait outside on the arrival level at the sign that reads LAX Shuttle Airline Connections and board the free LAX LOT SOUTH/LAX CITY BUS CENTER shuttle. Once there, take the Santa Monica BIG BLUE BUS #3. Exit the bus at 4th St. and Broadway.
Rideshare/Taxi from LAX:
The rideshare lot (Uber, Lyft) is outside of the terminals. To get there, exit from baggage claim (the arrivals level) and take an LAX-it free shuttle on the arrivals (lower) level curbside. They are expected to come every 5 minutes, and travel time to LAX-it lot is typically 15 minutes or less. Once in the lot, look for your pick-up point depending on which service you use.
From the Metro Train Station:
Take Metro Expo Line towards Santa Monica and get off at Downtown Santa Monica Station. Then walk two blocks west to 2nd Street on Colorado Blvd. and turn right into 2nd Street. The hostel is at 1436 2nd Street, half a block after Broadway Blvd.
From the Amtrak Train Station:
Take Metro Red Line towards North Hollywood Station to 7th Street/Metro Center. Transfer to Metro Expo Line towards Santa Monica and get off at Downtown Santa Monica Station. Then walk two blocks west to 2nd Street on Colorado Blvd. and turn right on 2nd Street.
Pets are not permitted at any HI USA hostels. We do permit service animals as identified by ADA guidelines. At all times, service animals must be under the owner’s control and never left alone.
We do not provide parking or parking validation. However, there is a public parking structure located across the street called P6 Structure. The cost is $20-$25 per day, with the clock resetting at midnight.
There is another public parking structure called Civic Center Parking Structure about a 10-minute walk from our hostel, with a cost of $5-$14 per day, with the clock resetting at midnight.
Yes, quiet hours are midnight to 7 a.m. Note, the courtyard will also be closed during those hours.
We do not have a hostel curfew, however, you need to be a registered guest with a room key to access the hostel after 10 p.m.
The guest laundry room is open 24/7. The machines charge $3 to wash and $2 to dry clothes, and we provide complimentary detergent.
Please speak to someone at the Front Desk in person. We are pleased to match any publicly advertised online rate* for additional nights booked directly through us. While we strive to keep you in the same room/bed, this is based on availability at the time of your request. The sooner you can let us know you’d like to extend, the better. Please let us know no later than check-out time (in most cases, 11 a.m.) on the day of your scheduled check out.
*Offer applies only to newly added room nights and cannot be applied to existing reservations.
You will have an assigned locker in your dorm room measuring 17 inches Wide X 19 inches Deep X 36 inches high (43 cm x 48 cm x 88 cm). If your luggage does not fit in the locker, we recommend locking anything valuable in the locker and keeping larger suitcases to the side of the bed.
If you want additional storage during your stay, you can pay $5/day to rent an additional locker in the communal TV room. The size of that locker is 17 inches Wide X 30 inches Deep X 33 inches High.
If you don’t have your own lock, you may purchase one for $7 at the hostel.

The hostel provides all linens free of charge. No personal bedding is permitted in the rooms. At check out, please put used sheets and towels in the bins provided on each floor.
There is free bicycle storage at the hostel.
We are happy to store Powered Mobility Devices (PMDs) such as e-bikes, scooters, or e-skateboards/hoverboards during your stay. Note that we do have several rules in place for the safety of our staff and guests.
- We can only store devices with a holographic sticker confirming they comply with UL (Underwriters Laboratories) Certification or EN 15194 Certification (Conformité Européenne).
- PMDs may not be charged inside the hostel building.
- PMDs may only be in designated zones of the hostel, and never in guest rooms.
- Batteries must remain attached to PMDs at all times while on the hostel premises. Batteries are not allowed in guest rooms.

The maximum stay at our location is 14 nights per calendar year, with consecutive stays in December and January not allowed (e.g. if you stay 14-nights in December, you will be able to stay with us again the following February).

Yes. A common area library is available as a quiet workspace, and there are many other common spaces available to work remotely. Free high-speed WiFi is available throughout the facility.

Minors traveling with a parent or legal guardian are welcome at all HI USA hostels. While we encourage guardians traveling with children to book private rooms for their comfort, we do allow minors in dorm rooms.
For safety reasons, children over 2 years old must have their own bunk bed in dorm rooms, and children under 7 may not sleep in top bunks. Emancipated minors traveling on their own, or other minors traveling alone with parental or guardian consent, should contact the hostel directly for more information on policies and booking instructions.
We’re centrally located in the heart of Santa Monica on Los Angeles’s west side. Santa Monica is known for its upscale shopping, vibrant dining and nightlife, beaches, and the world-famous Santa Monica Pier. HI Los Angeles Santa Monica hostel is located just blocks from all of those attractions and more, as well as the Santa Monica stop on the light rail train that runs all the way to Downtown Los Angeles.
Refrigerators and freezers are available in the shared guest kitchen. Secure storage is available in staff-accessible fridge/freezer; please notify staff if you need access.
Early check in and late check out are both available for purchase. Please see the front desk for availability and pricing.
Early arrivals may store their luggage free of charge on the day of check in. The hostel offers luggage storage on the day of your departure for $5.00 until 10 p.m. that evening. For a charge of $10.00 per day, you may store luggage at the hostel for up to 5 days after your check-out date. HI Los Angeles Santa Monica is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
We accept all forms of debit and credit cards including Apple Pay/Google Pay/tap to pay. We also accept cash (with an additional deposit). We capture payment in full at check-in (or prior to, in cases of non-refundable rates).
All guests must present a valid (non-expired) government-issued photo ID (physical originals only; we cannot accept digital versions or photocopies) upon check in.
Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Yes, guests may use hostel common areas until 10 p.m. on the day of departure.
Outside visitors are welcome in the hostel lobby. Only registered guests are allowed beyond that point.
