Our Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

HI USA is committed to a triple-pillar approach to sustainability, from the overnight hostel stay itself to education programs. Our hostels bring together travelers from more than 100 countries who are immersed in authentic, local experiences, while also sharing spaces and resources with their fellow travelers. HI USA hostels offer impact-driven activities and educational programs for travelers and locals alike that harness the principles of sustainable tourism, building a new generation of environmental stewards.

Million Gallon Challenge

Thanks to a $250,000 grant from Booking.com, we’ve installed 750 SmartShowers in our hostels.  The revolutionary, high-tech shower heads change color based on shower length and have been programmed to inspire guests to reduce the average shower time by 30 seconds. By encouraging our guests to be more mindful of their water consumption, our goal is to save 1 million gallons of water.
