It’s not too late to plan an epic three-day getaway no matter where you live, and you don’t have to break the bank to do it. Here are six of our favorite destinations for last-minute getaways. Each one is unique, easily accessible, and, best of all, home to a HI USA hostel.

Montara, CA

If you’re looking for an easy escape from the city that still offers a dramatic change of scenery, look no further than Montara, California. Just a 30-minute drive south of San Francisco, this tiny coastal town is easy to access for Northern Californians from the Bay Area and beyond. Known for its rugged coastline, its proximity to Half Moon Bay, and its lovely lighthouse, Montara is a relaxing spot for anyone who loves the outdoors.

Stay at: HI Point Montara Lighthouse. This hostel sits in the shadow of its namesake lighthouse, overlooking a serene cove beach and a lovely native plant garden.

Stay at: HI Sacramento, a historic mansion-turned-hostel in the heart of downtown.

San Diego, CA

the Gaslamp Quarter in Downtown San Diego

Southern Californians, rejoice: a last-minute weekend getaway to sunny San Diego is easier and more affordable than you might think. Hop in the car or on Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner train from Los Angeles, and in just a few hours you can be relaxing on Ocean Beach or sipping a craft beer at Stone Brewing.

Stay at: HI San Diego Downtown in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, or HI San Diego Point Loma in a peaceful neighborhood near the beach.

Richmond, VA

a neighborhood in Richmond Virginia

If you’re looking for an easy getaway in the Southeast, Richmond, Virginia is a hidden gem that won’t disappoint. Just two hours from DC, this historic city has a thriving food and craft beer scene, great live music venues, and tons of charming architecture.
